Safe and stable fixation with slot keys from norelem
Slot keys are special standard parts that are used in industrial manufacturing and machine construction. They are used wherever components need to be precisely positioned and secured. Some slot keys are tapped, they are inserted into T-slots or slots along a profile rail.
Their main purpose is to slide components along the slot and hold them in the desired position. They enable precise adjustment and alignment of the workpieces. They are deployed in assembly systems, machine tools, fixtures or other applications where precise positioning of components is required.
Our products in the category ‘Slot keys for positioning’ are made from robust materials such as case-hardening steel or Q&T steel. The variety of sizes and styles in the norelem range means they can be flexibly adapted to individual requirements. Slot keys therefore help to increase efficiency and productivity in your production environment.
Reduced mounting times thanks to the simple installation and removal of slot keys
Slot keys are fastening elements that are used in combination with slots, channels and profile rails. They can be inserted into the slot or screwed down via a thread. Their function is to slide components along the guide and secure them in the desired position. This is done by screwing screws or bolts into the tapped holes in the slot keys.
These standard parts are used in machine construction, automated production and other industrial sectors. The use of slot keys has many advantages. These are:
- Simple adjustment and alignment of assemblies to improve assembly efficiency
- Rapid adaptation to changing requirements
- Stability and precision in machining processes
- Reduced mounting times thanks to uncomplicated installation and removal
The advantages of slot keys lie in their versatility, flexibility and user-friendliness. They offer a cost-effective solution for fastening components and help to increase productivity in machining.
Versatile application possibilities - Slot keys in the norelem range
The norelem range includes six different products in this category. The products differed not only in their names, but mainly in their design and material. In the following text sections, we go into more detail about the individual products.
Slot keys in the norelem range
You can obtain four different slot keys from norelem. All types of slot keys are made of case- hardening steel.
- Standard slot keys: Our standard slot keys permit fixtures to be aligned on machine tables with type DIN 650 T-slots. To enable precise alignment, the slot key is screwed to the underside of fixture and positioned in the guide slot. The slot key length is 20 mm, 22 mm or 23 mm and the width selectable between 10 mm and 22 mm in 2 mm increments.
- Elastic slot keys: Elastic slot keys are used to align workpieces without play on machine tables with DIN 650 type T-slots.
- The elastic design allows this type of slot key to fit into T-slots without any lateral play. This slot key ensures independent compensation for the tolerance of the guide slots and thus enables a repeat accuracy to within 0.005 mm. In addition, the slot key has a spring force of 100 N with a spring travel of 0.02 mm and a spring force of 200 N with a spring travel of 0.03 mm.
- DIN 6323 loose slot keys: The loose slot keys are available for slot widths of 12 mm and 20 mm and offer flexibility when aligning workpieces. They can be placed loosely and are therefore not permanently fitted in the slots. The loose slot keys is particularly suitable for applications where frequent adjustment or arrangement of components is required.
- A DIN 6323 slot key is designed to enable the secure and stable fastening of components. At the same time, it also permits simple mounting and dismounting. The standard is widely used in various industries, particularly in mechanical engineering and manufacturing technology.
- Slot keys with locating pin: In contrast to conventional slot keys which have a rectangular profile for fitting in the slots, this version has a cylindrical form. The slot keys with locating pin are particularly suitable for aligning workpieces on clamping plates or pallets with cylindrical alignment holes. The slot width is selectable between 10 mm to 22 mm in 2 mm increments.
T-slot keys
In addition to standard parts for positioning, the norelem range also includes T-slot keys. They are screwed into a slot on the fixture element and then aligned in a slot on a table or similar. The T-slot keys save a great deal of time when mounting fixture elements, as it is no longer necessary to align these elements. T-slot keys are available in two styles.
can be used for two different slot widths. The slot key just has to be turned through 90° to fit the different width.
In general, the T-slot keys are used to improve the repeatability of movements and to extend the service life of the guide rail by reducing load and wear.
DIN 2079 carrier keys
DIN 2079 carrier keys are special components used in industrial manufacturing and mechanical engineering. They are used in machine tools, fixtures and other industrial applications. There they facilitate the positioning and securing of workpieces during the machining process. Slot keys can be combined with carrier keys to provide a robust and precise fastening solution.
The DIN 2079 standard defines the dimensions and specifications for carrier keys. This ensures uniform size and compatibility.
The carrier keys from norelem are available in three Styles. All three Styles are made from steel and are case-hardened, black oxidised and ground.
Style A – with one hole (see diagram above) Style B – with two holes Style C – high, with one hole (see diagram below) |
The slot width for the carrier keys can be selected between 15.9 mm, 19 mm and 25,4 mm.
Quality standards and materials: What is important for slot keys
There are several important aspects to consider when selecting slot keys. These not only influence the effectiveness and reliability of the slot keys, but also their adaptability. Here are some key factors to look out for when making your choice:
- Material quality: The quality of the material used is decisive for the durability and performance of the slot keys. Case-hardening steel is characterized by its ability to be hardened, wear resistance and toughness, which makes it suitable for use in demanding environments. Q&T steel is hardened through tempering and offers higher strength and hardness compared to case-hardening steel. This makes standard parts made from Q&T steel particularly suitable for applications that have to withstand heavy loads.
- Dimensions and Tolerances: The dimensions and tolerances for the slot keys should meet the requirements of the specific application. A precise fit in the keyways or slots is crucial for secure and stable fastening of components.
- Compatibility: Slot keys must be compatible with the existing keyways or slots of the fixtures. Compliance with DIN standards can ensure that the slot keys fulfil the required dimensions and specifications.
- Variations and adaptability: Slot keys should be variable, to adapt to different configurations and requirements. This can include the option of adjusting the position of the slot keys or selecting different sizes and forms for different applications.
