    Parallel keys from norelem

Parallel keys are used in the mechanical engineering industry to ensure the positioning accuracy of components. They are used to transmit force and torque from shafts to hubs. For this purpose, parallel keys are usually shaped as elongated components with a rectangular cross-section.

Shapes, dimensions and tolerances of the parallel keys
The parallel keys from norelem are available in various sizes and designs. The shapes and dimensions of parallel keys are regulated by DIN 6885. The most common geometry, Type A has rounded ends (round-face parallel keys). There are also straight-face parallel keys with straight ends.

In addition to the shapes and dimensions, DIN 6885 specifies the tolerances of parallel keys. Accordingly, a fit with a tolerance zone of P9, N9 or JS9 is specified for the tolerance of the keyway width in accordance with the standardised shaft fitting system. The parallel key corresponds to a standard shaft with tolerance zone position h.

Installation and function of a feather key

During installation, the parallel key is inserted into a prefabricated keyway in the shaft, with half of it protruding from the shaft. The component to be attached to it also has a keyway and is pushed axially onto the shaft with the parallel key. This results in a positive fit. The parallel key acts as a driver and transmits the torque via its side surfaces. The component must be secured on the shaft in axial direction to prevent it from moving. Circlips or slotted nuts, for example, are suitable for this.

    Versions from norelem

In addition to steel and stainless steel parallel keys, the norelem range also includes versions made of high-performance ceramic Z141. The parallel keys are available in widths from 3 mm to 16 mm and lengths up to 100 mm.

The ceramic parallel keys are based on DIN 6885 and are electrically insulating, have low wear, excellent abrasion resistance and are resistant to extreme temperatures.

In addition to the parallel keys, the category also includes other product families. These are:
